Austin Responds to Chlorine Gas Leak

Emergency notification system calls 1,200 homes.

Shortly after 6 a.m. today, said a notice posted on the Austin City Connection, an 18-wheel tanker truck transporting 2,500 gallons of chlorine gas from Houston to Austin was found to be leaking the gas.

The driver called 9-1-1, the city's Emergency Operations Center was activated. "Firefighters went door-to-door in the Chimney Hill and Walnut Trace neighborhoods to alert resident," said the notice. "In addition, the city's emergency notification system was used to call 1,200 homes; 150 people answered the call and 500 messages were left at homes. The Austin Fire Department relocated the tanker to a non-populated area to transfer the gas to another truck. There were no injuries reported.
