The managed services agreement consists of a one-year base period, valued at $1.8 million and four additional, one-year option periods that may be exercised by the CDC. If CDC exercises all option periods, the agreement has a potential value to Unisys of up to $9 million. Unisys consulting teams will assess CDC data center operations, develop technology requirements, implement related monitoring and reporting systems, and transition core CDC applications to the data center.
"Protecting information critical to public health and safety requires expertise in IT resource management and security," said Judy Kenny, acting associate director for technical operations, CDC's Information Resources Management Office. "Partnering with Unisys enables us to capitalize on that expertise so we can transform our business and streamline our IT operations to deliver maximum efficiency in serving and protecting our citizens."
Once the data center is operational, Unisys will staff it with a round-the-clock systems management team. All services will be coordinated by an onsite Unisys Program Management Office, staffed by Unisys, which will facilitate the ongoing application of performance standards and quality assurance programs. The outsourcing engagement relies on a performance-based contract incorporating strategic key performance indicators that measure how the improvements to CDC's IT infrastructure further the agency's strategic business objectives.
"The Unisys solution for CDC demonstrates the strategic value of managed services for clients who have critical and complex technology needs," said Ted Davies, managing partner of civilian agencies for the Unisys U.S. Federal Government Group. "While Unisys manages crucial operations, the CDC staff has greater freedom to focus on the agency's strategic mission -- informing and safeguarding the public."
