City of Nashua, N.H., Deploys GIS System

"I can't think of one city department that hasn't benefited by its use. On average, I am deploying up to six new users every week," said Angelo Marino, chief assessor and GIS coordinator for the city.

The city of Nashua, N. H., is deploying an information system that captures geo-referenced, digital aerial oblique and orthogonal images for use by the assessors office, mayor's office, fire marshal, building, code enforcement, fire, economic development, engineering, planning, public works, risk management and zoning departments.

The software enables users to easily access up to 12 different high-resolution views of any property, building, highway, or other feature in a county. The software also enables users to obtain measurements such as distance, height, elevation, and area directly from the imagery as well as insert GIS content and other data.

"I can't think of one city department that hasn't benefited by its use. On average, I am deploying up to six new users every week," said Angelo Marino, chief assessor and GIS coordinator for the city.

"Once we began using it, the benefits were immediate. We're using it everyday," Richard Sawyer, city planner said.

"It allows us to pre-plan responses as well as brief first responders in an actual emergency, giving them a solid understanding of the scene. I envision the potential uses for Pictometry will expand exponentially," Richard Wood an inspector and investigator with the Nashua Fire Marshal's office said.
