Lumberton, N.C., Police Unveil App for Anonymous Tips

The new app helps residents connect with the Police Department to find information, view alerts and submit anonymous tips from their smartphone, Lumberton Police states on its Facebook page.

Police
(TNS) — The Lumberton Police Department has launched a new tip411 anonymous tip system to boost its crime-fighting arsenal.

The new app helps residents connect with the police department to find information, view alerts and submit anonymous tips from their smartphone, Lumberton Police states on its Facebook page.

The Lumberton Police Department app enables the public to share an anonymous tip with police and lets officers respond back to create an anonymous two-way conversation.

Developed by tip411, "the app puts a powerful new crime-fighting tool into the hands of community members of all ages," authorities state on Facebook.

The Lumberton PD app is available for download for free via the Google Play Store, iTunes App Store or on the department's website at www.lumbertonnc.gov/172/Police.

The Lumberton PD app and tip411 anonymous text-a-tip system are 100% anonymous, police said, as the technology removes all identifying information before police see the tips. There is no way to identify the sender, police state.

"Our goal is to provide the highest quality of law enforcement service through a departmental philosophy of community-oriented, problem-solving policing," Lumberton Police Chief Michael McNeill said. "By working together, we can partner with our community to make Lumberton a safer place for all, and I believe our new tip411 system will play an important part on that effort."

Those without a smartphone can share information with police by sending an anonymous text tip via their cell phone to police by texting keyword LUMBERTONPD and their message/tip to 847411 (tip411). Anonymous web tips also can be submitted via an online form on the department's website at www.lumbertonnc.gov/172/Police.

"We're continuously working to build more advanced and innovative products to help departments better engage their communities," tip411 President Terry Halsch said on the Facebook page. "The Lumberton PD app — powered by tip411 — will greatly improve the public's access to agency alerts, social media channels, important information and more to help fight crime."
