As commander of the EMHSD, Washington will serve as the Deputy State Director of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, responsible for the statewide management and administration of emergency management and homeland security programs, as well as the supervision of the division's 78 employees.
Prior to his promotion, Washington served as assistant First District commander where he was responsible for aiding in the administration of eight MSP posts in the lower mid-Michigan region.
Washington served at the Bridgeport, Detroit and Ypsilanti posts, as well as the Human Resources, Training and Executive divisions before being promoted to the First District Headquarters in 2005. During his career, Washington has held ranks of trooper, sergeant, lieutenant, first lieutenant, inspector and now captain.
Prior to joining the department, Washington served in the United States Army. He holds an associate degree in criminal justice from Wayne County Community College and a bachelor's degree in business administration from William Tyndale College.
