Prior to the implementation of the E911 Workstation, Powell County emergency dispatchers used an antiquated key system where victim callers provided their phone number and address to the call taker, creating inefficiencies and wasting precious time in the event of a life-threatening emergency. Moreover, the county's large elderly population often called the sheriff's office directly rather than dialing 911, creating extra steps and significantly slowing response time for answering, tracking and appropriately dispatching emergency calls. And with a concentrated elderly population and 1,000 inmates at the Montana State Penitentiary located within the Powell County border, public safety communications was a critical issue to local law enforcement and emergency personnel.
Powell County turned to InfoMine of the Rockies to implement XTEND's PC/PSAP Intelligent E911 Workstation to locate, record and precisely dispatch emergency calls. The scalable solution required no proprietary switching equipment and integrated seamlessly into the county's existing Avaya IP Office VoIP private branch exchange (PBX) system, enabling the public safety answering point (PSAP) to immediately identify the exact location of a victim/caller. InfoMine provided the Avaya PBX and 3Com data network infrastructure, which together with the pc/psap, brought Powell County a state-of-the-art public safety solution.
Powell County's multi-functional dispatch center consists of two PC/PSAP dispatch workstations and one administrative workstation. All administrative and emergency calls are immediately recorded and available for reference and replay at any time.
