Did Apple secretly add a new button to your iPhone?

Answer: Yes.

Don’t panic, Apple didn’t somehow send a technician to operate on your phone while you weren't looking. The company did, however, manage to remotely add a new button to the iPhone.

This is thanks to the latest iPhone operating software, iOS 14, released in September. The Verge reports that the company added a new feature that has largely gone unnoticed: Back Tap. Accessed through the Accessibility menu in Settings, this new feature turns the back of your phone into one giant button.

When Back Tap is enabled, users can tap the back of their phone to initiate a preselected task, like opening the notification menu or control center, or taking a screenshot. What really sets this feature apart, though, is its ability to connect to the Shortcuts app. With Shortcuts, users can set Back Tap to do almost anything, rather than being limited to a few preselected actions. The possibilities suddenly become endless.
