Does this video doorbell screen visitors for COVID-19?

Answer: Not exactly, but it can check for a fever.

In the age of COVID-19, we’re all being a lot more careful about who we interact with, especially at home. But it’s not always easy to check whether every person that comes to your front door, be they family or just a delivery person, has any symptoms of COVID-19.

That’s where the new Ettie Smart Video Doorbell comes in. Debuted at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, this smart doorbell system can take the body temperature of visitors when they approach using an infrared temperature sensor. If it detects a fever, the doorbell will use sound and accompanying LED lights to warn the visitor.

If a person is cleared for entry, the device takes their picture and records the date and time of entry, so that contact tracing can be performed if need be. It can also monitor the number of people who have entered a space, sending an alert to the owner’s smartphone when maximum capacity has been reached.
