At the beginning of last month, Facebook announced that it would be banning all political ads from airing on its platform starting Nov. 3. The intention was to prevent the potential spread of misinformation around the presidential election and its results, something that many had accused Facebook of not doing enough of.

The ban was originally supposed to last about a week after Election Day as results came in. However, due to the delays in election results this year, the social media company announced on Wednesday that it would be extending its ban on “ads about politics and social issues in the US” for at least another month. The company did say that there may be an opportunity to resume these ads sooner, but it didn’t give any details on what those circumstances might look like.

Google also confirmed that it would be extending its similar ad ban and was similarly unsure as to when exactly that ban might be lifted.
