The Golden Gate Bridge. Construction began today in 1933. The bridge opened on May 27, 1937. The bridge is 4,200 feet long and reaches a height of 746 feet. The Golden Gate Bridge was, when it opened, the world's longest and tallest suspension bridge. Both records were broken in 1964 and 1998, respectively.
