How well can you recognize a phishing email?

Answer: Find out with Google’s new phishing quiz.

As the number and sophistication of malicious phishing emails has increased, so too have the technological methods of counteracting them. One of the best defenses against these messages, however, is simply being able to spot them before you fall victim.

That’s why Google created a new phishing quiz to help users learn what they’re doing wrong (or right) when it comes to figuring out if an email is actually spam. In the quiz, users are presented with an email message and given the option to identify it as “phishing” or “legitimate.” After they make their choice, the system points out why they were correct or incorrect.

“We created this quiz based on the security trainings we’ve held with nearly 10,000 journalists, activists, and political leaders around the world from Ukraine to Syria to Ecuador,” said Justin Henck, Google's lead product manager, in a blog post. “We’ve studied the latest techniques attackers use and designed the quiz to teach people how to spot them.”
