MIT researchers taught a robot to play what game?

Answer: Jenga!

According to Mashable, the easiest part of the process for the researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was teaching the robot the rules. The hard part was giving it the physical ability to play the game, which involved teaching it to understand physics and giving it a sense of touch.

Rather than delivering instructions via simulations and large data sets, the researchers chose to do their teaching with an actual Jenga tower. The robot learned from experience with the actual game, rather than simulations. It can now align, place, push and pull pieces without ever having to worry about shaky hands. While this may seem like an unfair advantage, MIT says that the robot is nowhere near being able to compete with an experienced human player. For now, at least.
