What do other delivery robots have that this one doesn’t?

Answer: Wheels.

Agility Robotics was thinking about accessibility when it created its delivery robot, known as Digit. The truth is that the front doors of most U.S. residences are not wheelchair accessible, and therefore not wheeled robot accessible either. But they’re easy to get to on foot.

That’s why Digit is a bipedal delivery robot, unlike most other models. It can carry a shipment of up to 40 pounds, as well as being able to push open doors and maneuver itself much like a human delivery person.

“An upright biped is going to better handle human interaction, going through a door and turning a corner to climb stairs, [as well as] moving its balance around to manipulate a package onto shelves that were built for human access,” Dr. Damion Shelton, CEO and co-founder of Agility Robotics, told Digital Trends.
