The challenge itself is very easy to complete. Participants simply clean up a trash-filled area and then share before and after shots on social media channels with the accompanying hashtag. The hashtag previously saw a lot of activity back in 2015 and 2016 when UCO, an outdoor gear-maker, used it in their #TrashTag Project. They encouraged people to share images of trash they picked up while on outdoor adventures, committing to picking up 10,000 total pieces of garbage by October 2016.
#trashtag has been an awesome time world wide flash moment. From 44bags in Asheville North Carolina, 500 volunteers picking up 8000 lb in South mountain regional Park Arizona, and Hungry cleaning rivers. This has been one of the best hashtag challenges ever. pic.twitter.com/QON5Ahdkzo — OREGON I.T. NOT IT⚾ (@OregonJOBS2) March 11, 2019
