Which U.S. cities are getting a 5G mobile network in April?

Answer: Chicago and Minneapolis.

Verizon recently announced that it will switch on its 5G mobile network in the two cities on April 11, bringing significantly faster speeds and increased bandwidth than 4G. Different from the company’s 5G network for the home, which launched late last year in a handful of cities including Sacramento, Calif., this is a citywide network that will work with 5G-enabled devices.

But there are a few catches. First, using the network will cost an extra $10 per month, although the first three are free. Second, until smartphone makers launch devices with built-in 5G modems, the first of which is expected from Samsung in April, the network will only work on a select device with an external 5G modem. The Moto Z3 is that device and must be paired with a 5G Moto Mod. But hey, once you get all of that, you’re good to go (as long as you live in Chicago or Minneapolis, that is)!
