Stores across the globe have seen a dramatic uptick in the demand for toilet paper recently due to fears surrounding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), leading to empty shelves in many locations. It’s not surprising, therefore, that people have been turning to alternative solutions. Enter the bidet.

Bidets have been around for years, but haven’t caught on very much in the U.S. That seems to be changing though, as many bidet manufacturers and suppliers are reporting significant increases in interest in their products. Business Insider reports that Brondell, a home product company that counts bidet toilet seats and attachments among its offerings, has had a large spike in sales through Amazon. Its bidet products are going at a rate of one every two minutes, and on one day in the last week it earned $100,000 via the e-commerce platform, as opposed to its normal $30,000 to $35,000.

Other bidet companies and sellers have reported similar increased interest. Direct-to-consumer startup Tushy experiencing a threefold revenue increase in the past week, while independent distributor Hygiene for Health has had a 50 percent increase in demand for one of its most popular models in the last two weeks.
