As the global pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) forces most of us to stay indoors and not go places, people who make a living from driving other people places like taxi and rideshare drivers are finding themselves without any customers. Fortunately, New York City has found a way to offer them some relief.

Jalopnik reports that the city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) is offering food delivery work to out-of-work drivers. The offer applies to gig workers and taxi drivers who are registered with TLC. They will receive $15 an hour and will be reimbursed for gas and toll costs. Although demand is reportedly low at this time, the department expects it to increase the longer that people continue to shelter in place and practice social distancing.
