How long is the world’s longest electric bus?

Answer: 88 feet.

In what it has promised is not an April Fool’s Joke, BYD announced April 1 the launch of its new electric bus. The K12A is the longest of its kind in the world at 88 feet and looks very much like a large red and black caterpillar.

The bus’ top speed is 40 miles per hour, it has a range of 186 miles per charge and has a maximum capacity of 250 people. It will make its debut in the country of Colombia’s bus rapid transit (BRT) system TransMilenio.

This isn’t the first record-breaking electric bus that BYD has built. In late January, the company announced the launch of the world’s largest fleet of electric double-deckers in Xi’an, China. The company has built 50,000 electric buses in the past nine years.
