Why did Lime temporarily pull its scooters in Lubbock, Texas?

Answer: So that Texas Tech fans wouldn’t damage the scooters or endanger themselves.

Lubbock, Texas, is home to Texas Tech University, which faced off against the University of Virginia in the NCAA Men’s National Championship basketball game Monday night. In the hopes of protecting both its scooters and riders should Texas Tech win the game, Lime decided to pull its fleet off the streets until Tuesday morning.

TechCrunch reports that the decision was driven largely by fan behavior a few days prior when the team beat Michigan State in the semifinals, securing its spot in the championship game. Revelers took to the streets and, among other celebratory acts, began lighting scooters on fire.

The game, played in Minneapolis, ended with an 85-77 overtime victory by Virginia.
