Who could be receiving the FAA’s first drone delivery license?

Answer: Wing, a sister company of Google.

Not Amazon, which may come as a bit of a relief to those of you who didn’t like that recent video rendering of what the e-commerce giant’s drone delivery mothership could look like.

CNET reports that the Federal Aviation Administration is expecting to award the first “air carrier certificate for operating a drone airline” within the next month. Google's sister company Wing is expected to receive the certificate because it is the only applicant listed so far.

Wing already made history earlier this week when it became the first drone delivery service in Australia, serving select suburbs in the capital city of Canberra. Residents can order food, drinks, coffee and drugstore items from local vendors via the Wing app, to be delivered to their door via drone within minutes.
