For the uninitiated, HORSE is a simple household basketball game. To start each round, one player shoots a basket from anywhere within the half court mark (no dunking or layups). Then all the other players take turns attempting to make a basket from that same spot: If they miss, they earn one letter from the word “horse.” Once a player has earned all the letters in the word, they are out. Last one standing wins.
Eight current and former NBA and WNBA players will be competing in ESPN’s virtual “HORSE Challenge” this weekend. The lineup includes current players Zach LaVine and Mike Conley Jr.; hall of famer Tamika Catchings; all-stars Allie Quigley, Chris Paul and Trae Young; and finals MVPs Chauncey Billups and Paul Pierce. They will all be livestreaming from the safety of their own courts, and ESPN will broadcast the feeds on its network.
The quarterfinals are scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday, April 12, on ESPN channels and the ESPN app. The semifinals and finals will follow on Thursday, April 16 at 9 p.m.
