These students created an AI that predicts what?

Answer: Who will live and who will die in the final season of Game of Thrones.

Students at the Technical University of Munich developed a new iteration of their Game of Thrones death predictor for the return of the popular show’s eighth and final season. The first version, created in 2016 before the release of the sixth season, was correct on three out of its five picks for the characters most likely to die.

The artificial intelligence behind the predictions was designed to analyze data sets from Game of Thrones Wiki and The Wiki of Fire and Ice, the show’s two Wikipedia sites. The algorithm considers factors such as a character’s gender, house, marriage history, character significance and more. It then compares these factors from characters who are alive to those who are dead, using the commonalities and differences that it finds to predict their likelihood of survival.

According to the AI, fans of Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister and Varys have the least to worry about, while those hoping for Bronn or Gregor Clegane, a.k.a. The Mountain, to survive should be worried (or not, if you don’t like them).
