What does Twitter want its users to start reporting?

Answer: Election misinformation.

In a new feature to be rolled out globally this year, the social media platform is giving users the option to specifically report a tweet for spreading false information about the voting process. Intentionally sharing false or misleading information about voting is against Twitter’s policies, but the platform needs help from its users in order to catch people or bots who violate those rules.

Once the new feature is live in their area, users will be able to select “it’s misleading about voting” as an option when they report a tweet. They will then be given the chance to describe to Twitter how the tweet misleads voters. This should not only make the process quicker and easier for users but also for the people behind the scenes at Twitter who are employed to deal with these situations.

The feature is scheduled to be rolled out first in India and the European Union on April 25 and 29, respectively, in time for election season. It should become available globally throughout the year on a rolling basis.
