Drone delivery has gained a lot of popularity in recent years, so it’s no surprise that people have turned to it as a viable solution during social distancing mandates. CVS and UPS are working together to use the technology to bring prescription medications to the front doors of seniors in Florida.

The program will launch (pun intended) on May 4 in The Villages retirement community in the state. Initially only one CVS store will participate, and the UPS drones carrying the prescriptions will fly test flights of no more than half a mile from the store. A UPS Ground driver will then complete the delivery. If everything goes well though, the service will expand to more stores.

This is not the first time that these two companies have partnered to deliver prescriptions. They first teamed up to explore the service back in October of 2019. “We’re always looking to improve convenience for customers through faster, lower-cost and more efficient delivery models,” said CVS Pharmacy President Kevin Hourican. “Given our focus on innovation, we’re excited to be the first retail health-care company to explore drone delivery options with UPS.”
