How much does it cost to own a Bird scooter?

Answer: $1,299.

For those who don’t like having to give up their rented Bird scooter at the end of a ride, the micromobility company just announced a new e-scooter that it will let you buy. Pre-orders are now open for the Bird One, the new and improved version of Bird’s original scooter.

Available in three colors, the $1,299 scooter has increased battery capacity and durability. It can go up to 30 miles on a single charge and withstand more than 10 months of regular shared use, so if you’re nice to the one you own yourself, it will probably last even longer.

If, however, you want to ride the Bird One but don’t want to fork over the $1,299, don’t worry. The new model will be introduced to existing shared Bird fleets this summer, beginning in Los Angeles and Santa Monica, Calif. There will also be another rental option, where for $25 a month, Bird will drop off a Bird One at your location and then pick it up when your rental expires.
