What can Lyft drivers get for free in Portland, Ore.?

Answer: EV charging.

Certain Lyft drivers in Portland, Ore., are about to get a little help fueling their vehicles. If they drive an electric vehicle for the ride-hailing service, recharging at select locations will be free.

The company has partnered with Portland General Electric (PGE) to provide the service, which launches July 1 in the city’s metro area. Other than the new Hillsboro station, Lyft’s announcement did not specify which locations will be offering the free charging. The move is the latest by the ride-hailing company to reduce its carbon footprint — earlier this year it launched Green Mode, which lets riders request an EV or hybrid when booking.

“We’re proud to fuel Lyft’s mission to minimize its impact on the environment with a robust and healthy EV charging network, as it aligns with our goal to help deploy electric transportation that serves everyone — regardless of how they choose to move throughout our region,” said PGE Vice President of Public Policy Dave Robertson.
