A recent video of a test of the Russian Hoversurf Scorpion shows just how far away we are (spoiler alert: It crashes, pretty hard). The Scorpion is an electric-powered hoverbike designed to fly at heights of 16 feet at up to 40 miles per hour. It flies using four propellers attached at each corner of the craft. Those propellers also make for a very scary scenario when the bike crashes after going 100 feet in the air. Fortunately, the pilot in the video appears to escape the crash unharmed.
The Dubai Police force announced a few years ago that it was planning to eventually add the Scorpion to its fleet. After seeing this video, however, they might be thinking twice about that.
