There are times, probably more than we want to admit, when someone will retweet an article shared by someone that they follow without reading it. But what if that article had a misleading headline, or had a message that the retweeter disagrees with? Sometimes they’ll only know if they read it themselves.

That’s why Twitter has started testing a new feature that prompts its users to make sure they’ve read an article that they’re about to retweet. It’s currently only available for Android users since its still in the testing stages. If it proves popular, however, we could see it be rolled out to other operating systems as well.

Sharing an article can spark conversation, so you may want to read it before you Tweet it. To help promote informed discussion, we're testing a new prompt on Android –– when you Retweet an article that you haven't opened on Twitter, we may ask if you'd like to open it first. — Twitter Support (@TwitterSupport) June 10, 2020
