The largest beer producer in the world, Anheuser-Busch Companies, announced this month that it is ahead of schedule on its sustainability goals thanks to its new solar farm in Pecos County, Texas. At 2,000 acres, the farm, built by Recurrent Energy, will be the seventh largest in the world and have a capacity of 222 megawatts. And it will all be used for brewing beer.
In 2017, the company set a goal to produce its product using 100 percent renewable energy by 2025, a target that it is reaching nearly five years early. In a symbolic gesture announcing the news earlier this month, CEO Michel Doukeris signed a contract with the sun for 5 billion years (its estimated lifespan from now). The contract was written and signed using mirrors and lenses to burn the words into wood with sunlight.
