Beginning June 20 and continuing through June 25, Internet services countrywide are being taken offline for a few hours around high school exam periods. This is a step up from efforts in previous years to prevent exams being leaked online.
The education ministry in 2016 requested that access to social media sites be blocked by Internet service providers during exam times. This was not enough, however, to stop the leaks. And so this year, the ministry decided to pull the plug on the Internet itself.
Additionally, metal detectors have been installed at exam room entrances to prevent students from bringing in any electronic devices. At locations where the exams are printed, there are security cameras and phone jammers.
