What annoying part of the Facebook app could be going away?

Answer: The red notification dot.

Some people don’t mind them, or have otherwise learned to ignore them, but there are some out there who, no matter how hard they try, cannot stand the sight of the red notification dot on the corner of a smartphone app and must get rid of it as soon as possible. For those of you who fall into the latter category, rejoice — Facebook is exploring the possibility of letting you turn them off inside its app.

TechCrunch reports that the social media platform is publicly testing a Notification Dots settings feature that allows users to turn off the dots on the app’s home screen. The feature, found under “Notifications” in the settings menu, gives users the option to enable or disable the dots for “Videos On Watch,” “Profile,” “Groups,” and “Menu.” A subset of iOS and Android users have been given the new settings option, but it should eventually become available to all users.
