Why is NASA suing Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell?

.

Answer: Mitchell is attempting to sell a video camera that was part of Apollo 14's lunar module Antares.

Reuters reports that Mitchell had put the camera up for sale at the British auction house Bonhams. The camera earned a pre-sale estimate of $60,000 to $80,000.

Nasa claims the camera is the property of the U.S. government, while Mitchell's lawyer said "Objects from the lunar trips to the moon were ultimately mounted and then presented to the astronauts as a gift after they had helped NASA on a mission," according to the report.

Mitchell's attempt to sell the camera comes with a layer of intrigue for conspiracy theorists as the former astronaut has on several occasions said he believes in the existence of aliens.
