Will Apple’s iPhone battery problems ever end?

Answer: At this point, it seems unlikely.

A new rendition of “Batterygate” may be back to haunt Apple again. In the original version, we learned in 2017 that Apple’s operating software was throttling performance speeds on older iPhones in order to preserve battery longevity, without telling users. This time around, however, it’s more like the opposite: the operating software appears to be rapidly draining battery life.

Over the past week or so, multiple posts have appeared in Apple Communities and on Reddit from users running iOS 13.5.1 claiming that their iPhone batteries were dying quickly after minimal use. With a little digging, some users say that they discovered the Music app was the culprit, running large amounts of background activity even when the app wasn’t in use.

According to Mashable, some comments on MacRumors suggest that it isn’t necessarily Apple Music causing the issue — instead, it could be a larger problem with the background activity settings of that version of iOS. Apple has yet to comment on these reports.
