The fifth largest smartphone maker in the world, Oppo, has come up with a safe way to charge smartphones really quickly.

With the 125-watt charger, a 4,000 mAh smartphone battery can be fully charged in just 20 minutes, and only five minutes of charging will give you 41 percent battery capacity. For comparison, a 25-watt charger can fully charge a Samsung Galaxy S20 (which has a 4,000 mAh battery capacity) in one hour and six minutes. The charger also has 10 additional temperature sensors and over-voltage protection measures in order to prevent overheating.

Oppo has not yet announced a smartphone that will come with this charger, so it could be a while before we actually see it in production. But the company is known for making fast-charging devices: Its Reno Ace phone had a full charging time of 31 minutes. So it’s likely that a device to accompany the 20-minute charger is on the way.
