Right now, you can pair your Alexa-enabled smart home device with your phone and control it that way, but the connection doesn’t work the other way around. Amazon, however, is aiming to change that.
Announced in late July, the company is testing a new feature that will allow you Alexa device to open an app on your smartphone and carry out your commands. For example, you could say “Alexa, start recording a TikTok video,” and the device would be able to open the TikTok app on your phone and start recording with it.

Of course, this feature, dubbed Alexa for Apps, has a long way to go before we might see it out in the wild. It is currently only available for app developers in preview form so that they can work with Amazon to figure out how they might be able to integrate it into their platform.
