How long ago did Microsoft launch the Windows operating system?

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 25 years since Windows 95 launched, yet here we are.

Exactly a quarter century ago, Bill Gates got up in front of a crowd about 11,500 strong and introduced the first of Microsoft’s modern line of desktop operating systems. Windows 95 set the stage for all the Microsoft operating systems to come, introducing innovative features like the start button, task bar and file shortcuts. On the more technical side of things, Windows 95 also introduced plug-and-play detection of peripherals and vastly improved graphics.

Microsoft ended support of Windows 95 almost 20 years ago, but its role in the progress of technological innovation continues today. Also, who didn’t love that iconic startup sound (see video below)?
