What is #MeTooVoter?

Answer: A new hashtag from the organizers of #MeToo.

#MeToo founder Tarana Burke has announced a new hashtag, #MeTooVoter, to focus the movement’s efforts on politics. Burke said she launched the hashtag because issues important to #MeToo like sexual harassment and violence haven’t been discussed in political debates ahead of the 2020 election.

“We need these candidates to see us as a power base. So many people engage with survivors from a place of pity,” she told the Associated Press. She went on to explain that she hopes that #MeTooVoter will, among other things, help lead to a question about sexual violence in future debates.

The #MeToo movement has partnered with groups including Justice for Migrant Women, the National Domestic Workers Alliance, and the National Women’s Law Center on #MeTooVoter. People who are interested in getting involved in #MeTooVoter can visit the signup page here.
