What city mayor has expressed interest in receiving a bid from Elon Musk's The Boring Co. to build a high-speed train beneath the city?

Answer: Chicago.

In a Wednesday press release, the Chicago mayor's office announced that the mayor was soliciting bids for an express train from downtown to O’Hare International Airport. Apparently, there is one company that the mayor hopes to see among the bids: The Boring Co.

“We hope Elon Musk and either builders of hyperloops and other innovative technologies will respond,” Bob Rivkin, deputy mayor of Chicago, told the Chicago Sun-Times. “We think it could be feasible at no cost to the taxpayers and this is the right format to use to find out formally if that is the case. We’ll know as soon as we get responses.”

While The Boring Co. has received permission to start digging in other locations to build its underground high-speed trains, this marks the first instance of express interest from a major city. Elon Musk responded in a tweet Wednesday night that “The Boring Company will compete to fund, build & operate a high-speed Loop connecting Chicago O’Hare Airport to downtown.” Looks like the mayor will be pleased.
