What was the worst password used in 2019?

Answer: 123456.

People, as it turns out, are generally not very good at passwords (looking at you, Kanye). Either we use the same one for everything, we use really simple ones that a third-grader could guess, or we try to use something more complicated but forget it and have to go through that annoying password recovery process every time we want to log in to an online account.

Fortunately, organizations like SplashData are here to shame us over our poor password choices every year, in the hope that some of us will make a New Year’s resolution to do better. The company has dropped its annual list of the year’s worst passwords (hint: if anything on this list is a password that you currently use, you may want to think about changing it sooner rather than later).

The top three worst passwords were 123456, 123456789 and qwerty, with the actual word “password” coming in fourth.
