What exactly is a Voltswagen?

Answer: The new name of Volkswagen’s operations in the U.S.

Volkswagen really wants to emphasize its electric vehicle efforts in the U.S., so much so that it will be changing its name here. According to CNBC, the company accidentally leaked the news in a press release on its website Monday that has since been taken down.

The press release, which was reportedly dated April 29, announced that the company will be changing the name of its U.S. operations to Voltswagen of America beginning in May. The release stated that the new name is a “public declaration of the company’s future-forward investment in e-mobility.”

“Voltswagen” will be placed as an exterior badge on all of the company’s EVs. Voltswagen will be considered an official operating unit of Volkswagen Group of America, and will be headquartered in Herndon, Va., as a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG.
