Where is Bolt offering a ‘women only’ rideshare option?

Answer: South Africa.

Rideshare company Bolt is making efforts to improve safety for women customers in South Africa with the rollout of a new “Women Only” feature. The move comes after the company has come under fire over male drivers sexually assaulting female passengers.

The feature is currently available in eight cities: Cape Town, Durban, East London, Emalahleni, Johannesburg, Mbombela, Mthatha and Rustenburg. It will be active between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day, during which time women riders will be able to request rides only from women drivers.

“We’ll continue to roll out this option to more cities across South Africa as part of our commitment to ensuring the safety of everyone who uses the Bolt app,” Bolt said.
