But this may change, according to Stateline.org. Pending legislation in the Alabama House would legalize homebrewing, which was legalized in Oklahoma in 2010 and Utah in 2009.

Though an effort in Mississippi to legalize homebrewing failed earlier this year, the state did update its alcohol limit laws last week -- beer can now have an alcohol content of up to 8 percent by weight, up from 5 percent, which was the country's lowest.
