Twitter has finally had enough of “copypasta.”

The term is Internet slang for text that has been copied and pasted from its original source without any modifications. Copypasta originated back in 2006 as a term for viral messages, but more recently the practice has been used as a spam effort, as malicious actors use hundreds of thousands of bot accounts to push out propaganda.

Twitter has decided it’s going to start cracking down on copypasta, announcing in a tweet Aug. 26 that it would begin to “limit the visibility” of tweets that it believes are copypasta. However, it is not yet clear when this will go into effect or how it will be enforced.
