IT Workshop: Auditing Wireless

"Auditors must be increasingly diligent as they seek to prevent intrusions and security compromises within state systems"

The current issue of NASACT News, the newsletter of the National Association of Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers, described the National State Auditors Association's 2005 IT Workshop and Conference last month in Atlanta, including a session on digital government by the Center for Digital Government's Paul Taylor, and sessions on wireless technology.

A session, entitled: "The World is Going Wireless: How Not to be Left Behind in Your Audits," looked at wireless use as well as mounting security concerns.

"Usage of wireless devices and networks is expected to continue to rise," said the article, "which means that auditors must be increasingly diligent as they seek to prevent intrusions and security compromises within state systems."

Mark Canter from the U.S. Government Accountability
Office, discussed Bluetooth; RFID, client-side wireless; and wireless auditing (policies, legal implications, techniques, and federal regulations). Complete PowerPoint presentations from the workshop are available online.
