On Sept. 30, for the first time, all voters in every parish will use the AVC Advantage Voting Systems for election-day voting. Since 2005, federal funds awarded through HAVA were used to purchase the voting systems for the entire state. Twelve parishes already voted on this system.
"It has been my intention since returning to the Secretary of State's office to execute a uniform, statewide voting system in Louisiana," Ater said. "This is a monumental step for Louisiana, not only for today, but for years to come."
The new AVC Advantage Voting Systems are wheelchair accessible and every precinct will have an audio bay available for voters with disabilities. All 64 parishes also began early voting Monday on the new touch screen machines that are smaller and more practical for use in the registrars of voters' offices. Instructions on how to operate the new voting system both for early voting and election-day voting are available on the Secretary of State's Web site.
