Louisville Metro Police Choose Safety Vests

Equipment uses electroluminescent technology

by / July 23, 2003
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Louisville Metro Police Department in Kentucky has selected a high-visibility safety vest for professionals that is based on electroluminescent technology and does not rely on reflective materials.

After testing the vest from GloTech Industries during and after the Kentucky Derby, Police Chief Robert White received positive feedback from the department's traffic control officers.

"We view these vests as another way to enhance the equipment that our officers utilize in the field," said White. "Whether assisting a motorist on the side of the road or patrolling an unlit street on a bicycle, a vest that does not rely on reflection from headlights but has its own illuminating source provides assurance that one of our officers will be seen by motorists."
