Missouri Cracks Down on Cell Phone Record Sales
First injunctions obtained against four companies
According to a release from Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon's Office, in January Missouri became the first state to obtain a court order preventing an Internet business that sells cell phone records from conducting business in its state. Since then, Nixon's actions have led to preliminary injunctions against a total of four such companies.
Peter Lyskowski, an Assistant Attorney General from Nixon's office, will testify today before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
In his testimony, Mr. Lyskowski will detail Missouri's response to the issue of the sale of private cell phone records on the Internet, including investigations and litigation filed by the Attorney General's Office, and on how federal proposals affect the office's tools to protect consumers.
