National ID Cards For UK Citizens

Government's plans for ID cards have been dogged with controversy almost since the outset

The UK government has defeated attempts by Members of Parliment to make its controversial plans for ID cards voluntary. Following a vote in the Commons, it will be compulsory for anyone applying for a passport from 2008 also to apply for an ID card.
