Pennsylvania Attorney General Warns of Telephone Scam

Callers request personal and bank account information in order to receive the offer

Pennsylvanians are being warned about a telephone scam in which callers claim to be from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and offer discounts and a shopping spree. Residents who receive a call of this nature should not disclose personal or financial information, said a release from the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office.

The Department has been made aware of several fraudulent phone calls in which callers say that they are from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and inform residents that their household was selected to receive a discount on health care items and a $1,000 shopping spree. The callers then request personal and bank account information in order to receive the offer.

Residents who may have disclosed personal or bank account information to this type of caller should first contact their bank to alert them about the possibility of fraudulent activity. Residents should also contact all credit bureaus to place a fraud watch on their accounts.

Any resident who receives this telephone call should get as much information as possible and file a consumer complaint form with the state Attorney General's Office.
