Utah Department of Transportation Deploys Traffic Monitoring System

System utilizes existing infrastructure to increase safety and lower cost.

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has deployed a streaming digital traffic monitoring system powered by VBrick Systems' networked video appliances. The contract will enable the department to view video from remote surveillance cameras linked to the VBrick Security, Surveillance and Monitoring (VBSSM) system, across its existing network infrastructure to its Traffic Operations Center, allowing for increased safety and security, as well as cost savings.

Smaller and lighter than most laptop computers, the VBSSM can be placed almost anywhere, including on top of telephone poles, in transportation vehicles or mounted in and around office buildings. It contains conformal-coated circuit boards, making it suitable for deployment in harsh environmental conditions. The VBSSM encoder accepts video from standard surveillance cameras, compresses it in real-time and transmits it digitally over an IP network. Video can be displayed on TV monitors using numerous video decoders, set top boxes and on PCs through desktop decoder software, such as VBrick's StreamPlayer.
